Since Sunday is officially prototype day, here is a new animal i made!!! It’s an owl. And it’s orange. Reminds me of the fall. At any rate, i went with ‘very small’ for the size, going with the whole less is more theme. I don’t have a name for him yet, so any suggesstions are welcome!!!
The picture quality is not the best cause i only had crappy batteries and the camera kept shutting off on me. I really like the basic shape of the owl, and i’ve drawn a whole series of animals the same way. So there are definitely more to come!!! Anyway, here is the pattern:
Materials:
ww yarn (i used caron simply soft in orange, turquoise, brown and yellow. i believe it’s in the brites line)
size F hook
yarn needle
stuffing
Body:
6 sc in ring
rd1: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc)
rd2: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc around (18 sc)
rd3: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc around (24 sc)
rd4: This is also an increase round, 30 sc, but i put the increases in two batches instead of spaced evenly, so bear with me here! : *(2sc in first sc, sc in next)* 3 times, sc in next 8 sc, repeat * 3 times, sc in last 4 sc. (30 sc)
rd5-16: sc in each sc around (30 sc)
rd17: In Back Loops Only, sc in each sc around (30 sc)
rd18: this is a decrease round! It’s the decrease version of rd 4, so once again, bear with me here!: *(dec 1 sc in first 2 sc, sc in next)* 3 times, sc in next 8 sc, repeat *to* 3 times, sc in last 4 sc (24 sc)
rd19: dec1sc over first 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc around (18 sc)
rd20: dec1sc over first 2 sc, sc in next sc around (12 sc)
rd21: dec1sc around (6 sc)
sew closed, finish off.
Eyes (make 2)
with brown, 6 sc in ring, sl st in first sc, ch 1
rd1: 2 sc in each sc around, sl st in first sc, ch 1.
rd2: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc around, sl st in first sc, ch 1.
rd3: (switch to blue) 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc around, sl st in first sc, finish off.
Beak:
with yellow, 5 sc in ring
rd1: sc in each sc around (5 sc)
rd2: 2 sc in each sc around (10 sc)
finish off.
Finishing:
Alright people, we all know to stuff the bird anytime before you close it up! Sew the eyes and the beak on whenever you want to, i did it before i stuffed this one, but you can do it after the body is all done. It’s up to you!! Weave in all ends and enjoy your new owl!!!
I think for the next bird i’m gonna try felt for the beak. not sure yet.

Sooo cute!!! I love the colors:) I think (my 2 cents) that you should make owl-y wingy things for the sides….remember the tootsie roll pop commercial? OH!! Make a series of tootsie roll pop commercial animals, name the boy Jimmy. Yeah, I have the best ideas.
I was just thinking the same thing!!!!! as i said in my post, it’s a prototype, so i will 100% make wings/wing thingys for it!!!!!
Nathalie
oh yeah, Who is God? 🙂
that is really cute 🙂 I love the big googly eyes!
it looks like a bee head.
lol! it does!

I don’t understand the instructions on row 4? “rd4: This is also an increase round, 30 sc, but i put the increases in two batches instead of spaced evenly, so bear with me here! : *(2sc in first sc, sc in next)* 3 times, sc in next 8 sc, repeat * 3 times, sc in last 4 sc. (30 sc)”
just do a regular increase round, evenly spaced, cause im pretty sure it shouldnt mess up the final result…i’ll look at the pattern and see if i cant write that round more clearly! 🙂
here is rd4, im listing each stitch without () & *’s: 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc in next 9, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc in last 5.
