This little guy jumped out of my head yesterday~ he’s Mr. Tucan (original, i know) and he’s a bird watcher. Yup. He’s a bird that likes to watch birds.

He’s also a doofy guy! I think it’s cause of his feet!!
I took these photos of him around 5 am!!! That’s no surprise though, the early bird does catch the worm! Tasha was up with me, eating her Nikolaus candy, and Mr. Tucan joined us on the couch. I think he likes hanging out with us girls!
There are a bunch of kitties in the house, and here he’s trying to move away from them. That, and he doesn’t like the smell of people feet!

fasten off, sew closed, leave super extra long tail for sewing.
Finishing:
1. Stuff the beak and sew onto the front of the body. I placed mine inbetween the first two colors, also stuff the body and sew closed.
2. I took half of a square of beige felt (from walmart) and folded it in half. I then cut out the ‘foot’ shape, and about 2-3 inches of ‘leg’. Just look at the photo, and copy that shape.
3. I took embroidery floss and a needle and sewed the legs onto the bottom of the bird.
4. I left a super long tail when i closed him up, threaded a yarn needle onto it, and ran that up through his body and out of the side of his beak. Then i believe i did a backstitch? around the beak to form the mouth. You can also do the regular non-lazy version, where you would actually embroider the mouth onto the beak before you stuff and sew it on!
4. Glue on the large sized google eyes using fabric glue, or cut some out of felt and sew them on. Whatever eyes you like to the best is cool.
5. I believe that’s it! Enjoy the bird!

Hahaha, I’m using that forever now…who can? you can, mr. toucan!!!!!
Email me, I’ll be down there Saturday around lunch…lemme know what everyone wants to eat, I may pick up Moes or something….
Call me! Lol.
Pretty good, not as good as ‘No Gnus is good Gnus”
🙂
For the love of all that is good in this world, one of you guys really needs to call Wayne. Really. Leave a message if he doesn’t answer.
I did! And then he said he wouldn’t be here for Christmas, and then got off the phone. But I’ll leave more messages for him. Maybe I’ll have some indifferent gnus for him:)
Oh, and Jen? “one of you guys” really means me. Because Nat has no phone. Really. She like, NEVER calls. Hahahahahahahahaha.
Ok, then Nat – EMAIL WAYNE!!
I love Mr. Tucan. You are so creative and generous to share your pattern. Very inspring!
Melissa
Thank you, Melissa!!!
Nathalie
Very cute. Thank you.
I volunteer at a local museum and teach crocheting. I’ve used this pattern for my students many times and the different variations in colors has been amazing. Thanks for a great pattern.
I’ve enjoyed making this pattern. I changed the feet from felt to a crocheted pattern that has the 3 toes curling under. So it looks like he’s ready to clutch a branch. All I did was ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd stitch from hook, 2 sc in each sc. Chain 7, sc in 2nd stitch from hook & in each sc to end of chain. Slip stitch into next sc on circle. Chain 7, sc in 2nd stitch from hook & each sc in chain. Slip stitch into next sc on circle. Chain 7, sc in 2nd stitch from hook and each to end of chain. Slip stitch into circle and tie off.
